We invite you to join us on an excursion that includes the best of Cozumel! Visit Mayan Ruins, ride along the wild side of the island and snorkel in a shallow reef near the shore from the Playa Uvas Beach Club. All this includes some great off-road driving in your very own jungle style dune buggy!
Start this exciting day by taking a brief, and scenic, taxi ride from your cruise ship pier to Playa Uvas, one of the island's lovely beach clubs. Once you meet with your English speaking excursion guides, you will be shown to your sand rail style dune buggy that seats either 2 or 4 people. Please note that these are shared vehicles, but you may buy the extra seats if you want the buggy more private. Please check the price guide and keep in mind that the driver in your group will need to have a driver's license. Note that these vehicles have a standard transmission and all drivers must have experience driving stick shift.
If there is someone in your group that would like to do the beach club portion and skip the buggy, please see our Cozumel Playa Uvas All Inclusive and Snorkel Beach Day Pass Excursion.
Once everyone is matched to a buggy it's time to just follow your guide to the lovely little town of El Cedral located inland. There you can see how the locals live away from the bustle of San Miguel. Your guide will also give you some info about this historic town and you will see a small Mayan ruin alongside the first Catholic Church that was built on the island.
Next stop will be the ruins of San Gervasio. These ruins were built centuries past to honor the Mayan Goddess of Fertility, IxChel. It was expected of every Mayan woman to make a pilgrimage in a small wooden canoe from the mainland to this sacred site to ask for blessings. Eventually, during the Maya reign, a small colony was formed. You will have the opportunity to view these small but lovely ruins and feel free to use this experience as a wonderful photo opportunity.
After a bit of history, it's time for some excitement! Follow your guide just down the road to the eastside of the island where you will do a 20 minute drive down a sandy trail that runs along the edge of the turquoise blue Caribbean before turning around for another fun drive back. Your guide will lead you onto gravel trails as well for some sliding action. Please be prepared to get dirty, but it's worth it!
Then your guide will lead you back to the Playa Uvas Beach Club where you will enjoy a relaxing guided snorkel tour in the Marine National Park. All the equipment needed will be provided and your guides will be happy to answer questions and help you with your gear. Then you will head out into the waters for a 35 minute glide over the second largest barrier reef in the world. There is an abundance of colorful tropical marine life just waiting to greet you and afterwards you will be refreshed with a tasty lunch of fajitas, along with two non-alcoholic drinks, all included with your excursion.
Then you are free to remain at this exclusive beach club and continue to enjoy the amenities such as lounge chairs, a beachside restaurant and bar for any additional food and drink purchases, as well as facilities (including a swimming pool) and shaded areas. Once you are ready you can take a taxi back to your Cozumel cruise pier at your own leisure and cost.
